Luminograms

In my latest photogram work, there are no objects being photographed. The subject is the void. The idea is to make the void—or the absence of something—a perceptible entity by allowing it to possess material properties: form, weight, and the occupation of space. The method entailed folding gelatin silver photographic paper into three-dimensional forms and exposing it to a light source—manipulations that allow the medium to generate its own picture. The result is the emergence of new forms in the images—turning the whole process into a documentation of the unseen and an experiment in making "ghosts" appear. The paper, bent and marked with creases from handling, takes on a sculptural dimension.
